The 23rd annual ICAP Charity Day was held on Wednesday 9th December, and once again was a huge success. The brokerage firm has held the event on one day each year since 1993, giving away all revenues and commissions made to charitable causes. Last year, the day raised £8 million, and the total amount raised since its launch twenty-two years ago is over £119 million.

The day itself is a fun filled event, where the normally smart and suited city brokers swap their regular attire for fancy dress. Celebrities often join them on the trading floor to speak to customers, helping to boost the volume of trades and money made. The big attraction in the London office this year was the appearance of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both of whom spent time on the phones talking to customers and closing deals.

Michael Spencer, the ICAP Group CEO, said: “For very many people in the firm, myself included, our charity day is always the most exciting and fun day that we have. Charity day is about us, together, our clients, our suppliers, our staff, the firm, everyone giving 100% to charity.”

ICAP works in a range of cities around the world, with each office raising money for a different set of causes. The idea is that by focusing on a small group of charities, and being able to give them a larger amount of money, the donations will make a real difference to their operations. The tangible results shown on the ‘Success Stories’ section of their website – helping over 1,800 causes worldwide – make it clear that this strategy is truly working, and creating positive change around the world.
