Press Release, Macmillen Cancer Support – A selection of Lords and newly-elected MPs are limbering up for the 29th year of Macmillan Cancer Support’s legendary House of Lords vs. House of Commons Tug of War event, which will take place on Tuesday 2 June 2015 in the Westminster College Gardens.
The annual event, which sees Lords and MPs at either end of the rope, has become a staple event of the Westminster social calendar – and will this year be compèred by BBC Radio 5 live’s Chief Political Correspondent John Pienaar.
Confirmed participants include rival city firms, fire crews, and event sponsors Taylor Wimpey vs. Associated British Ports who will all be battling it out in the name of charity, as well as the highlight of the evening when the Lords take on the Commons.
Since the inaugural event in 1987, Macmillan’s Tug of War event has raised over £3million to help ensure that no one faces cancer alone and now that there are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, these funds are more vital than ever.
The Tug of War matches will be accompanied by a drinks and canapé reception, and followed by a silent auction as well as other fundraising initiatives. Tickets for Macmillan’s Tug of War event are still available and can be purchased at £100 per ticket by calling 020 7840 4800 or e-mailing tugofwar@macmillan.org.uk.
